Gallery home : OUR PONDS : MAIN POND

This pond is now 10 years old and has given us no problems at all. On retirement I decided to design a pond with unique features. The outcome has pretty much met my brief and little has been changed since the 80,000litres or so was pumped in and the pumps started up. You may notice there are two levels. The returning water from the filters via 3 x 100mm bottom drains and 2 x skimmer boxes is delivered to a 10,000 litre grow on pond. It then drops to the main pond via the waterfall. The pond is also finished with a swimming pool liner, glass window in the front was another relatively new concept at the time. filtration is supplied by way of a solids removal chamber with brushes then into 3 x 300 nexus filters (not the home made type!). From there into a 17 sheet map mat chamber. All the water supplied to the filtration is by gravity and pumps deliver from 32k ( in winter) to 48,000l/h in summer back to the ponds. Total system is 100,000litres approximately.
By now I was bringing in Rotary Drums from Europe and I had become friends with Jan of ProfiDrum fame. The decision was made in 2016/17 Remove all the filtration and fit a Profidrum. I was spending 5 hrs every weekend cleaning filters. The ProfiDrum was cheaper than the set up I had and it is completely hands off with better water quality than I had before. Best decision I ever made!
In 2019 the liner finally gave out and the pond was leaking badly, I removed the window and old liner, Fibreglassed the pond and replace the window. All done in 3 days thanks to my friends help and Brett from Howzat Ponds leading the way.I see this as the last effort and expect the pound to see me out.

View of the original pond set up. Fish are always looking for food. The sign of a good pond with adequate filtration.
